At Trinity Christian School, we support and have established the government’s new regulations on Fundamental British Values.
The Department for Education requires all schools “to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”
Democracy
Romans 13:1 “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except those which God has established.”
Pupils are encouraged to develop an understanding of how democracy works at national and local levels, for example, through a visit by our local MP and mock elections. Pupils are also given opportunities to contribute their views as to how the school could develop and be improved.
The Rule of Law
Matthew 22:21 “So Jesus said to them, give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.”
Pupils are taught the importance of rules and laws at all levels: personal, in class and school, locally, nationally and, ultimately, the Law of God. They are expected to understand the values and reasons behind laws and the consequences when laws are broken.
Individual Liberty
Galatians 5:13 “God called you to be free. But do not use your freedom as an excuse to please your sinful self; rather, serve one another humbly in love.”
At Trinity, pupils are regularly encouraged to make informed choices in how they learn in the classroom and play during breaktimes. They are encouraged to know their rights and freedoms and taught how those freedoms and choices can impact others around them.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs
Luke 10:36 “Jesus said, ‘Which of these three men do you think was a neighbour to the man who was attacked?’ The teacher of the law answered ‘The one who helped him.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Then go and do the same thing he did!’”
Trinity is a Christian school engaged in a curriculum formed by a biblical worldview. We are delighted to welcome pupils from different backgrounds, all faiths and none. Within a biblical worldview, pupils are taught the diversity of modern Britain and the wider world and taught and shown the Christian model to love, serve and respect all peoples.
For more information, please see our British Values policy which is found on the policy page which sets out how the school promotes British Values and our expectations of our pupils.
